REIKI

Reiki is a Japanese word; Rei-meaning "higher power" and Ki-meaning "universal life force energy." The Japanese word is shown to the left. Reiki Healing is the act of channelling universal energy by a Practitioner with the intention of assisting others or self maintain or improve their health.

A Short History of Reiki

Reiki is an ancient healing art that may have been lost for eternity if not for Dr Mikaomi Usui (Pictured below left), a Japanese man who re-discovered it in the late 19th century when, during a retreat at Mt Kurama Yama, he received instantaneous empowerments direct from the Universal Life Force. Mikaomi spent several years studying, developing and further refining Reiki, giving it form and structure. He opened a Reiki clinic in Tokyo, founded a Reiki Society and incorporated the five principles propagated by the Emperor of Meiji for whom he had great respect. There are several variations of the wording of these principles but all are honourable and carry much wisdom. I present the following version for your information:

Just for today, do not anger
Just for today, do not worry
Honour your teachers, parents and elders
Earn your living honestly
Show gratitude toward all living things

Dr Usui's clinic was so successful that he soon had to open another in Nakano and he was in much demand as the popularity of Reiki grew. His level of commitment and workload had a detrimental effect on Dr Usui's own health and he died on 9th March 1926 after charging one of his students, Dr Chujiro Hayashi with the responsibility of continuing the Reiki tradition. Dr Hayashi in turn passed on the responsibility to a woman named Hawaya Takata who was, until the 1970s was believed to be the only western proponent of Reiki.
Since then it has continued to be shared across the world. Anyone can take a training course and learn to channel Reiki in Edinburgh, Glasgow or anywhere, as it is handed down through lineage by an attunement process from Master Teacher to student. You can now experience Reiki in Edinburgh with Master Teacher Gordon Soutar.

How Reiki Healing Works

Reiki is a particular frequency of Universal energy channelled by a Practitioner such as Gordon Soutar, to re-balance the recipients energy fields, and to help in the prevention and cure of illness, disease, stress and anxiety. This energy works with the underlying cause of a problem which can result in quicker more effective healing. The energy can encourage healing by flowing to wherever needed in the body and aura to help you. The rate of healing will be depend on the focus of Practitioner and client and on their receptiveness to the energy and accepting change. A treatment may result in emotional release, quickening of physical healing, release of tension, reduction in pain, increase in personal energy and a sense of deep relaxation.

To receive Reiki you will normally be asked to lie down on a therapy couch but alternatively you may be seated in a chair. Reiki will often involve the laying on of your Practitioner's hands to non-intrusive areas of your body while you remain fully clothed.
